Easy Cake Trick

I think I mentioned before that because I'm always making cakes for other people's birthdays, when our own birthdays come around at our house, we like to celebrate with something besides a cake! We usually go for an ice cream cake or cookie cake, but this year I decided to surprise my husband with something different: Do you like donuts? How about Krispy Kreme donuts? That's right, it's a Krispy Kreme donut cake! It's actually a tower of donuts, but it doesn't really show well in the photo. I found an actual recipe online too, which I followed almost exactly (I ended up with a few extra donuts). I used 2 dozen KK holiday-themed donuts, drizzled with white and dark chocolate and accented with fresh strawberries and blackberries. Easy peasy. I've been asked to create a purse cake before for a little girl's 5th birthday, but hadn't done one for an adult until earlier this year! The cake was her favorite, intensely chocolate with chocolate chips, and the purse was pink (her favorite color) and black buttercream and fondant. It was a hit with the birthday girl, and lots of fun to create!

My instructions were "no baby stuff." A "technically difficult" creation due to the many color flow pieces that had to be made for it. Each sugary gymnast was unique! The cake top has a color flow "gold medal" and a "ribbon" of frosting. Rainbow Unicorn. I just love this cake! Cap, No Gown. I just wanted to see if I could do it, and I think it did it well enough! Cookie Cakes: Cinderella's Coach & Castle. Sometimes we get really sick of cake at my house, so for my daughter's Cinderella birthday party, we opted for a pair of cookie cakes--shortbread and M&M. Dora the Explorer 'Fiesta' Doll Cake for my own little...
